Fact checkRegistration

How do you register for the CEH exam?

Registering for CEH takes three moves: qualify, buy a voucher, book a session. Qualifying means EC-Council training or an approved experience application; the session is remote-proctored or at a Pearson VUE center, and remote bookings need at least three days' notice (EC-Council, Oct 11, 2026).

Registration in order

  1. Choose your eligibility route

EC-Council training, or two years of information-security work experience. The CEH requirements page covers both.
  2. Apply on the experience route

$100, non-refundable. Your employer or a verifier endorses the experience; processing takes five to 10 working days after they respond.
  3. Buy the voucher

$950 for remote proctoring or $1,199 for Pearson VUE. The CEH exam voucher rules cover validity and extensions.
  4. Book the session

Remote: at least three days ahead, after an equipment test. Pearson VUE: choose a test center; EC-Council cites over 4,500 of them.

Ready for a remote-proctored session

  • Session booked at least three days in advance
  • Equipment test passed on the computer you will sit the exam on
  • ID ready for the proctor check
  • Voucher still inside its one-year validity
  • Eligibility approval still inside its three-month window

Booking odds and ends

Can you take the CEH exam online?

Yes. EC-Council's remote proctoring service lets you sit the exam from your own computer with an online proctor; you book at least three days ahead and pass an equipment test first (CEH certification page, Oct 11, 2026).

What do ECC and VUE mean on a CEH voucher?

They name the delivery channel for the same 312-50 exam. ECC Exam Center is EC-Council's own delivery, which includes its remote proctoring; VUE means a Pearson VUE test center. The store sells one voucher for each, $950 and $1,199 as of Oct 11, 2026.

Do you register from scratch for a retake?

No new eligibility application: a retake goes through EC-Council's retake application (certification FAQ, Oct 11, 2026). Waiting periods are on the CEH retake rules page, and fee and age questions on the CEH eligibility requirements.

How soon after the exam are you certified?

You see the result shortly after finishing. EC-Council issues the certification within seven working days after verification, and the digital certificate appears in its Aspen portal in seven to 10 days (certification FAQ, Oct 11, 2026).
