Career pathDoD 8140

Does CEH count for DoD 8140?

Yes, according to EC-Council: it states CEH is approved under DoD 8140 and lists DoD Cyber Workforce Framework (DCWF) work roles such as Cyber Defense Analyst (511) and Vulnerability Assessment Analyst (541). That is EC-Council's statement, checked Oct 11, 2026. The DoD's own qualification matrix was not publicly readable when this page was checked, so confirm your position's requirement with your organization.

From 8570 to 8140

Older prep books and job posts still say "8570". The CEH candidate handbook records that the DoD included the CEH program in its Directive 8570, and EC-Council's 2023 explainer states that DoD 8570 has been replaced by DoD 8140. Search either number and you land on the same question; the current framework is 8140, and EC-Council describes CEH's place in it through the DCWF work roles in the table above.

For a candidate, the practical change is vocabulary. Look for a work-role code in the position description, then check whether CEH is accepted against that code. A certificate matched to the wrong role code earns you nothing on that billet.

ANAB accreditation, the "ANSI" in search results

EC-Council states that CEH and CEH (Practical) are accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) under ISO/IEC 17024, the standard for bodies that certify people. Per the candidate handbook, ANAB-accredited certificates carry no exam version number but do carry the ANAB mark.

On its accreditations page EC-Council lists further recognitions: GCHQ Certified Training in the UK, test-fee reimbursement under the US GI Bill, and Singapore's NICF. Treat all three as EC-Council's claims too; this page checked them on EC-Council's site only (Oct 11, 2026).

Checks for a DoD position

  • Find the DCWF work-role code in your position description
  • Confirm with your security manager or contracting officer that CEH is accepted for that code today
  • Keep the certification active: 120 credits and the annual fee per cycle, as the CEH renewal rules explain
  • If the role's list also names CompTIA certifications, weigh the formats on the CEH vs PenTest+ comparison first
  • Set pay expectations against BLS occupation data on the CEH salary page, never against recruiter claims

If you still see 8570

Is CEH still on the DoD 8570 list?

8570 has been replaced by 8140, per EC-Council, so the live question is the 8140 work roles. EC-Council states CEH is approved under 8140 for roles including 511 and 541 (as of Oct 11, 2026).

Does the DoD itself list CEH?

Not confirmed here: the DoD matrix was not publicly readable when this page was checked on Oct 11, 2026. Everything on this page about 8140 is attributed to EC-Council.

Is CEH ANSI accredited?

EC-Council states CEH is accredited by ANAB, the ANSI National Accreditation Board, under ISO/IEC 17024 (as of Oct 11, 2026). ANAB's own directory was not checked for this page.
